CONDITIONS WE TREAT

A stroke occurs when the blood supply to the brain is cut off. This can be a due to a bleed in part of the brain, also known as a haemorrhagic stroke, or due to a clot causing a blockage within the blood flow to the brain, known as an ischaemic stroke, which is most common. People can also have spinal strokes where the stroke occurs within the spinal cord.

NG Physio will complete a detailed assessment and discuss your individual goals. As every stroke is different it's important that we discuss your individual problems and how we can help.

Some problems after stroke may include sensory problems which is how things feel. This can be less or sometimes hypersensitive, for this we can work on sensory stimulation and other compensatory mechanisms. Muscle alignment can sometimes be altered due to high tone or low tone. Using facilitation we can work on postural awareness and alignment which can also help with stiffness and tightness. Facilitation and alignment techniques can help to reduce pain. We can work on muscle strengthening exercises, specific and global. Balance and co-ordination is a common symptom after stroke and we can work on specific exercises targeting these areas.
