CONDITIONS WE TREAT

A stroke occurs when the blood supply to the brain is interrupted. This can happen due to a bleed in the brain, known as a haemorrhagic stroke, or due to a clot that blocks blood flow, referred to as an ischaemic stroke, which is the most common type. Additionally, strokes can occur in the spinal cord, which are called spinal strokes.

At NG Physio, we will conduct a thorough assessment and discuss your personal goals. Since every stroke is unique, it is essential to address your specific challenges and determine how we can assist.

After a stroke, individuals may experience various issues, including sensory problems, where sensations may feel less sensitive or, in some cases, hypersensitive. We can work on sensory stimulation and other compensatory strategies to help with this. Muscle alignment may also be affected due to high or low muscle tone. Through facilitation techniques, we can improve postural awareness and alignment, which may alleviate stiffness and tightness. These techniques can also help reduce pain.

We will concentrate on both specific and overall muscle strengthening exercises, as well as exercises targeting balance and coordination, which are common challenges following a stroke.
